Sprawling Maya network discovered under Guatemala jungle

Researchers have found more than 60,000 hidden Maya ruins in Guatemala.

They used Laser technology known as Lidar to digitally remove the dense forest canopy to create a 3D map of what is really under the surface of the Guatemalan rainforest. Showing that Maya ruins were much larger than ground-based research had suggested.

Archaeologists believe the cutting-edge technology will change the way the world will see the Maya civilisation.
