3.2 Installation of equipment, testing and training

The GTTC is inter-institutional, and co-founders were universities, administration and industry. Though the equipment is located in two different universities, the centers are physically established in specific locations, and appropriate rooms were prepared in advance. The rooms for GIS laboratories was also prepared in advance.

  • Demonstration of laser scanner at GTU, Georgia
  • The laser scanner equipment was demonstrated at Georgian Technical University during the external evaluation.

  • Opening of the GIT lab at BSU, Georgia
  • In the framework of Erasmus+ CBHE project “Higher Education Interdisciplinary Reform in Tourism management and Applied Geoinformation Curricula” ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​a new GeoInformation Technologies Lab (GIT) was established and opened at the Tourism Faculty from Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University (BSU) devoted to train professionals in GIT applied to cultural heritage and tourism, to document architectural and historical monuments and mapping mountainous regions, and to disseminate the history, culture and landscapes using modern geovisualization techniques in the new created learning courses – Cultural Tourism, Tour Guiding, Management of Cultural Heritage.

  • Opening of the GTTC at NUACA, Armenia
  • The opening ceremony of the newly opened Center for Geoinformation Technologies and Tourism, created within the framework of the “HERITAG” project, took place with the participation of Rector of NUACA and partners of the project. The Center will provide students with the opportunity to develop their practical skills and research capabilities and strengthen university-employer links.

    • The second training course in GIS started in April 2019 in Goris State University, as part of the activities of the project HERITAG. The course was taught by SERF as well as some academic staff, took place in the new laboratory opened by HERITAG members.
